Delsone Syrup

Your child’s medicine at a glance

Delsone Syrup belongs to a class of medicines called steroids. It helps treat certain types of allergies, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune disorders, hormonal disorders, and even cancer in children. It is also the treatment of choice after organ transplantation and for Nephrotic syndrome in children.

Give Delsone Syrup to your child with food. The usually prescribed frequency is once daily, preferably in the morning after breakfast. The dose of this medication will depend on your child’s clinical condition, body weight, age, and treatment response. Use Delsone Syrup only for the recommended duration of time. Do not prolong its use, more than recommended as that may lead to increased side effects. Also, do not stop giving this medicine suddenly. Sudden withdrawal may affect the ongoing treatment and the child may exhibit withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, and thirst. The dose needs to be gradually reduced before stopping it completely. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking Delsone Syrup, let the child calm down, and then give the same dose again.

The most common side effects associated with the use of Delsone Syrup include increased appetite, weight gain, increased blood pressure, and behavioral and mood changes. Many of these usually go away once the treatment is stopped. However, in case these persist or start bothering your child, consult your child’s doctor without any delay. Taking Delsone Syrup can also make it harder for your child to fight off infections. Tell the doctor if your child shows any signs of infection such as fever or sore throat.

Never practice self-medication, always consult your child’s doctor for advice. Your child’s doctor must be aware of your child’s entire medical history, including any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, liver impairment, and kidney malfunction. Having an insight into your child’s overall health will help. This will guide the doctor in planning your child’s overall treatment.

Uses of Delsone Syrup in children

Benefits of Delsone Syrup for your child

In Treatment of Inflammatory conditions

Delsone Syrup helps in the treatment of a wide variety of inflammatory conditions such as asthma, severe allergic reactions, juvenile arthritis, uveitis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease. Delsone Syrup works by inhibiting the secretion of chemicals that cause inflammation like prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

In Treatment of Autoimmune conditions

Delsone Syrup has been found useful in organ transplantation and in treating several autoimmune disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, connective tissue disease, skin disorders, nephrotic syndrome, acute interstitial nephritis, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Delsone Syrup stops the release of chemical messengers (interleukins) that are required for the multiplication of white blood cells (WBC) in the body. By doing so, it suppresses the body’s immune system and disables it from acting against the body’s organ systems. This helps in reducing symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching, and other allergic-type reactions. It is important to know that this medicine may weaken your child’s immune system, so you should keep your child away from other people who are ill or have infections.

In Treatment of Severe allergic reactions

Delsone Syrup is a corticosteroid. In addition to the many other benefits, it can be used in the treatment of severe allergic reactions. This medicine works by reducing the inflammation associated with allergies. It is a highly effective medicine. Take it in the exact dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor to get most benefit from it.

In Treatment of Allergic conditions

Delsone Syrup prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It can be used to treat a great many different inflammatory and allergic conditions including arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis which affect the skin, blood, eyes, lungs, stomach, and nervous system. It works by lowering your immune system’s response to these conditions thereby reducing symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching and other allergic-type reactions.
This medicine is given orally (by mouth). You should always take it as it has been prescribed for you. Do not stop taking it without your doctor’s advice. This can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Because this medicine weakens your immune system, you should avoid being near people who are ill or have infections.

In Prevention of Asthma

Delsone Syrup works by reducing and preventing swelling and inflammation in your lungs. It is known as a “preventer” and is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma such as tightness in your chest, wheezing, breathlessness, and coughing. This means you can carry out your daily activities more easily and more confidently.

It may take a few weeks for this medicine to show full effects. Keep taking it regularly as prescribed even if you do not have any symptoms (this means it is working). Do not stop taking it unless your doctor advises you to, otherwise, you are more likely to suffer from symptoms. This medicine will not stop an asthma attack that has already started.

In Treatment of Rheumatic disorder

Delsone Syrup prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It can be used to treat a great many different inflammatory and allergic conditions including arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis and conditions which affect the skin, blood, eyes, lungs, stomach, and nervous system. It works by lowering your immune system’s response to these conditions thereby reducing symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching and other allergic-type reactions.

It can be used to treat a great many different inflammatory and allergic conditions of the skin such as eczema, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. It works by lowering your immune system’s response to these conditions thereby reducing symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching and other allergic-type reactions.

In Treatment of Eye disorders

Delsone Syrup helps relieve symptoms of eye infections such as redness, swelling, itching and watering of eyes. This medicine works by decreasing the production of certain chemicals that cause inflammation of the eyes. This will make it easier for you to go about your daily activities. Use it as prescribed to get the most benefit. If you see no improvement even after a week, talk to your doctor.

In Treatment of Nephrotic syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to pass too much protein in your urine accompanied with excessive swelling over various parts of the body such as around the eyes and in the feet and ankles. Delsone Syrup works by suppressing the immune system thereby reducing inflammation and swelling that occur in nephrotic syndrome. It reduces the protein in the urine and also helps in getting rid of the extra fluid, thereby relieving the swelling over different parts of the body. This helps to restore the normal kidney function and prevents further damage to the kidneys.

Quick tips

  • Prefer giving Delsone Syrup with food as an empty stomach can trigger acidity and gastric reflux.
  • Do not give this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor.
  • Your child may be more likely to get new infections. Also, in some cases, old infections may become active. Tell your child’s doctor if you see any signs of an infection such as fever, cough, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Delay vaccination while your child is taking Delsone Syrup as it may not work well. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given after consulting a doctor.
