Understanding Hepatitis B Immunity Profile
What is Hepatitis B Immunity Profile?
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that affects liver. It can cause both acute and chronic disease. The infection can be spread through contact with infected blood or other bodily fluids. This panel consists of three tests hepatitis Bs (Surface) antigen, hepatitis Bs (Surface) antibody, and anti HBcAg total. Hepatitis Bs (Surface) antigen detects the presence of hepatitis B virus in the blood. Hepatitis Bs (Surface) antibody detects the antibody produced against the hepatitis B virus. It indicates that the person is protected against the hepatitis B virus either through vaccination or past infections. Anti HBcAg total detects all the antibodies against hepatitis B virus. It gives us an idea about the previous infection. The classical symptoms of the disease include yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, extreme fatigue, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
